Massage - what are the benefits?
Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of muscles of the body for health and wellbeing. Swedish body massage uses different movements to treat the body: effleurage is a gentle smoothing move used at to gently stroke the muscle to warm and relax. Tapotement, as the word suggests, is a tapping motion used to stimulate the muscle. Percussion includes cupping, hacking and pounding and is also a stimulating and toning move. Petrissage involves lifting and gently squeezing the muscle, sometimes in a kneading motion, to aleviate tension. Vibrations are used to stimulate the muscle fibres to release muscle spasms. So you see there are lots of different techniques used in your body massage to encourage a feeling of wellbeing.
In addition to improving physical wellbeing, massage can release endorphins in the brain to create a feeling of happiness and wellbeing.
